Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I haven’t been able to work. How could I possibly afford an attorney?

Answer: Pennsylvania law is on your side. You can enlist the help of an attorney without paying a penny upfront. Your attorney is paid only if you win a settlement, and even then, the amount of payment is dictated by state law.

Question: Why should I choose a sole practitioner instead of a larger firm?

Answer: When you work with a sole practitioner, such as Anthony Vellner of Vellner Law, you enjoy the advantages of a single point of contact. Mr. Vellner personally handles every case from start to finish. He will meet with you, speak with you on the phone, and represent you in court. With larger firms, there is often a team of attorneys working on your case, which means when you arrive in court, you might be meeting your attorney for the first time!

Question: Why would I work with an attorney instead of my employer’s workers’ compensation carrier?

Answer: In short, your employer’s workers’ compensation carrier works on behalf of your employer—not you. By hiring your own attorney, you can help ensure that a strong advocate will be fighting for you.

Question: How do I initiate a case with Vellner Law?

Answer: Getting started with Vellner Law is simple. You can call us at 610-814-3120, or you can fill out our online form.

Question: What will I need to do in support of my case?

Answer: Be sure to tell your doctor(s) about all of the pains and other complaints that you believe are related to your work injury. Keep your employer informed about any work restrictions or changes in your work abilities. Also, keep good records—including copies of everything you receive from your doctor(s) and employer regarding your injury. Finally, contact a workers’ compensation lawyer as soon as possible. The insurance company has trained adjusters and attorneys working on its behalf. You can—and should—have the same professional guidance and support.

Question: Will I have to testify in court? Why or why not?

Answer: The answer to that question depends on the nature of your case. After learning more about your specific situation, Mr. Vellner will outline what you can expect.

Question: How long does it usually take to reach a settlement?

Answer: Again, the answer to that question varies from case to case. Sometimes, settlement can be reached in as little as a few weeks or months. Other times, cases take require more time—up to a year or more—because of complex medical or other issues.

Question: How much do your services cost?

Answer: As required by Pennsylvania law, Vellner Law does not collect any fees unless and until a case is successful. By state law, attorneys’ fees are a set amount. Unlike some other firms, Vellner Law does not require clients to cover any upfront costs, such as physician depositions.
